I've got a fairly large poster I'd like to scan and reprint (after touching up) but unfortunately kinkos is being a b!tch and not only refuses to scan it in but to also print it because it's copyrighted so I have no idea what to do..

1. Do you own a flatbed scanner?
2. See question 1.

Scan in sections. Use Photoshop or other stolen software to put the sections back together. Don't get overly enthusiastic with the pixel count as this is a fairly memory intensive procedure.

Photoshop hints: Make each layer slighty transparent while positioning, then restore to opaque when in position. Use numerical rotate if your sections weren't perfectly aligned when scanned.

Not bad really. Which software are you using? When scanning in sections use the preview scan once on the first section to get the brightness/whiteness levels right, then turn off any auto adjustments so force the sacanner to scan all section using the same settings.

You are going to get edge effects (under/over exposed sections at the edge of the scanned area) with most scanners so the sections should overlap enough that you can trim out the parts that show edge effects before pasting the sections together.

Also, you might try scanning with descreening activated. This should take out the background patterns visible in your example.

Try another Kinkos location. You can always bring in a *cough* legit *cough* letter from those who own the copyright saying you have permission to copy it ;)
