how to give your two weeks?

is there a certain way youre SUPPOSED to do it? im kind of afraid to tell my boss. he is very.. intimidating. do i just go in and tell him i have a new job? if hes not working today, is it appropriate to leave a note on his desk? or... can i just call and tell him? im sure i cant avoid him because i know that i have to at least work this week out, possibly next week... (they usually dont make you work the full two weeks though).
 
Go up and say to him ;

I'm giving you my two weeks notice, I found a better paying job where they will respect my work habits and they do not intimidate their employees.
 
Do it in person.

Excuse me, Mr.______. Just wanted to tell you that I'm going to be moving on to another job in two weeks.

What's he going to say, no?

Ok, cant be sarcastic when you are so polite.

Real world advice, write a letter or an email. This is an official notice and should be treated as such. This also prevents any direct confrontation, that is part of the reason letters of resignation exist.
 
I wrote a letter and sat down with him while he read it. That way I got to say everything I wanted to (I liked the place alot, but was ready for a change). I told him in person how much I apprerciated all he had done over the years and that it was a hard decision, etc...

I just write a short but sweet letter to my boss. If he wants to talk to ya about it, he will.

I have not had a job that I would quit like that, yet.

For my first two I just gave them my notice verbally. No problem.
 
Back at my old job, I asked my boss out to lunch and he immediately knew something was wrong. I just told him I found something more suitable for my career. You don't have to tell them where it's at, just that it's not "their" fault... (you know... the whole don't burn bridges thing)

I would. My job gave me a break and I wouldn't abandon them like that. Plus, that would be the best two weeks ever knowing with smug satisfaction I could buy this place and had more money than the owners!
 
Give him a written two week notice. Just walk in and hand it to him and walk out. Simple. Clean. Easy.

Just tell them that you need to give them two weeks notice. It is really as simple as that. Dont worry about explaining why. If they ask you found another job which is a better opportunity.
