How to give non-admins access to the VMs in Hyper-V Manager?

Hi Guys,

I am setting up a new server which we will use to host a number of VMs. Mostly, it is quite easy, but I cannot figure out how to give non-administrators access to the VMs in Hyper-V manager.

Googling it tells my that I have to assign the users to the Adminstrator role. I have done that, but they do still not have access.

Any ideas?

Are you talking about letting them administer the VMs in hyper V, or talking about giving them access to the VM itself?

Hm, I just tried it with my server (no domain, it's in a workgroup) and followed the blog entry linked above and it worked for me.

I logged in with a test account. Hyper V manager loaded, but it said I was not authorized to see the machines. I then added the test user to the admin group in the mmc snapin that was editing the xml file. I switched back to the test account and all VMs then showed up. I didn't try to limit which VMs I could see, however.

Can you at least get the other accounts to see a list of VMs?
