How to give a subscription as a gift?

I'd like to give my son a subscription as a gift, how does he go about signing up for an account as obviously I'll be using my CC to pay for his subscription?

Is he already a member? If he is just get his login info and signup for the subscription, if not get what he would like his username to be and signup that way. BTW cool gift, my parents think I spend too much time on these boards
