How To ... Giga-Sata-Raid1

Read lots of stuff, but I'm feeling like trial and error will take 20 hours of work

Want to install 2 250G sata drives in a Raid-1.

Want to use a 74G sata raptor as OS / Prog disk

Gigabyte GA-8KNXP Intel875P, WinXP Pro

It has the 4 onboard sata connectors:
SATA0_SB / SATA1_SB (manual says just Raid0 is supported)

SATA0_SII / SATA1_SII (these are the raidable ones I think)

I have F6 installed the drivers for SII.

Problem #1 is that SII connections do not recognize any drives when I plug the drives in - either the raptor or the 250s. I have tried to play around with the BIOS settings.

But can someone start me fresh. What's a blow by blow.

I really appreciate it. I'd rather learn from you then spend 20 hours bent over a damn board.

Thanks
kush

I just went through that, what rev. board do you have.
I have the 1.0 and had to udate to f13a bios.
The connectors on ths board aren't too good for sata drives.
I kept losing a drive in raid 0 and in Raid 1
I used the Intel sata for raid 0 and 1
You have to select raid in bios for each sata port your using.
Then you have to set the boot order in sequence as sata 1 or sata 2 to boot first, but mine kept changing until I installed the F13a Bios
If you have rev 2, update to the latest bios first before you screw with anything.

thanks billyjak

i can't even get out of the gate.

my SiL ports are not recognizing the 2 250s

Post is not picking them up. they are plugged in and spinning. what am i doing wrong....

in BIOS i have sata raid enabled

kush

* rev1, and i did upgrade to 13a

Um just hook up raptor and install OS. After the install, hook up the 2 250gb and try to get raid working.

During the windows install see if you don't need any drivers at all

I'm going nuts

Ok, I disconnected the 250s

installed the raptor into the SATA0_SB slot, loaded windows

Then reconnected the 250's into the SATA0_SII / SATA1_SII slots

Nothing - not recognizing the drives in post

Went back and reloaded the SiLraid drivers via XP disk.

Now when my Bios is config'd to sata raid, i get the blue screen on boot up. when I go back and remove the sata raid in bios, i can boot normal to my raptor

What am I doing wrong??? Why isn't this POS recognizing my drives?
