How to get Win2k to allow *windowed* apps work in DOS shell (and NOT freeze them unless fullscreen)

Well, the title says it all folks,

I've got an old DOS game that will run in *fullscreen* only in Win2k. but as soon as I window the game, Win2k "freezes" it until I make it fullscreen again. Is there anyway I can get around this?

If the game uses any kind of Graphics mode you will only be able to run it in full screen. There isn't a way to get around it. This is true for all Windows OSes. Only text mode programs can be windowed.

Also the DOS in Win2k/XP is EMULATED, its not actual DOS and some programs just will not work correctly in it.

Well, If I remember correctly, it uses EGA or something, but:

1. It works just fine in win98 windowed mode. it doesn't freeze or anything.

It's just in Win2k that i can't get it to run properly. The titlebar of the windowed game even states "FROZEN" until I put it in fullscreen mode.
