No you're right, there are advantages, namely the TN status/visa, which allows you to apply at the border for a job and it's good for 12 months at a time (can be renewed). All it requires from your potential employer is a letter. It's offered to only mexicans and canadians. Unfortunately it only works for skilled labor, and that labor is generally something that requires a degree or work experience. Engineer, nurse, etc. are covered.Originally posted by: bigalt

i thought that perhaps canadians got special dispensations, being our backwards but friendly neighbours, but it looks as though they have to get the same visas as everyone else.
