How to get them old DIVX movies to play?

A guy I know has all these DIVX cds from like 1997, the cds where you had the player call up the company and pay $5 before you could watch it. So anyways, that company is long gone, is there any way that he can still view the movies? They don't read in normal cd drives but do in DVD drives, any video codecs that he could install and watch'em on his computer or something? Thanks.

why! why did you buy it i hope you paid 50cents total or something yes i'm not helping, but i hate divx that much.

i thought there was a permanent unlock hack or something might have had to get that from the company b4 it completely died though

I didn't buy em, the guy did in 1997 and now they don't work. I would thing there is some type of codec that would let you play them since they do read.
