How to get the text size setting to "stick" in Firefox

Hey guys, so with IE, when I pick a text size (normal, larger, etc), the setting sticks for all future pages I open.

In FF (1.5.0.2) I have to set the text size every time I open a new page and it's a PITA. Is there a simple way to make the setting "stick?"

Adjusting the default font size in the settings only works for some sites and not others, it seems, as opposed to the text size (or text zoom as some may call it) which will increase the fonts on just about any site, but I have to redo it for every new tab.

TIA

I'd love to know the answer to this myself... 1920*1080 makes it hard as hell to read the standard size text.

I was wondering this too, and I am sure there is a method you can do using about:config, but I haven't researched it yet.
I have found one method so far, using extensions.

1) First install MR Tech Local Install and restart Firefox.
2) Second, install Textzoom. Be sure to check the box to disable the maxversion check. Restart FF.
3) Click to Tools --> Extensions. Double click on TextZoom and input the default zoom (I tried 125% at first..).

Now, as you may have noticed on the page for the textzoom, it is an old extension with one problem: the second tab will not zoom to what you input as the default zoom. The first tab will, as will the third, fourth and so on tabs, just not the second one. I have no idea why...

I'll see if I can find any other methods that might work better.

I finally resolved this problem after installing 1.5.0.2. I went to Tools, Options and at the bottom is a setting for font style and size. I set mine to Tahoma @ 16 - end of problem on a 1280x1024 screen.

supafly--Textzoom does not work with 1.5.x.x--DOH! Thus the extension manager thing first.

corkyg--I tried Times new Roman since Tahoma is apparently not available on my system. No dice. Do I have to restart FF? --Moot now that I got textzoom to work.

Thumbs up for Jimmy Snuka!

Now that I messed with both settings (default font size AND textzoom), some of the stuff bleeds across boxes on web pages. Can someone remind me what the default setting is in Tools->Options->Content Fonts & Colors?

I did the same thing myself ... constantly trying all sorts of fonts to try to get it "just right"

This is what I am currrently using:

Default Font: Arial 16
Fonts for: Western
Propotional: Serif 16
Serif: Arial
Sans-Serif: Arial
Monospace: Arial 16
Display: 96dpi
Minimum Font Size: None

Allow web sites to choos their own: Unchecked

You may want to try these ... and make a copy
of your settings in a .txt file so if it really gets out
of whack you can back to what was "acceptable"

Thanks screwed!

bruceb, since the text zoom plugin works so well for me, I don't want to mess with it further. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Can't repeat this enough: big ups for supafly. Kind of a klooge, but it works. that "MR Tech Local Install" plugin is da bomb!

I would also suggest using Verdana for sans-serif and Georgia for serif because these fonts are specifically designed for on-screen use.

That is interesting ... I might try those two fonts and see how it looks
Right now everything is fairly good, but when typing responses to
this forum, type is very tiny

I've definitely benefitted from the switch to Georgia/Verdana in terms of eyestrain and just general satisfaction with web browsing. As a matter of fact, I may redesign all my web pages to use these fonts. Thumbs up!
