How to get the Standby in the start menu for win2000

Hey i have installed win2000 on my PC and everything works as expected except one problem. I want to put my computer on stand by mode instead of turning the computer off. But the shut down menu does not have the standby function in it.

I have tried many things to get it to install in my system but none seem to be working. I know that the feature works because i have used it on my pervious installation of win2000.

I tried reinstalling the MS ACPI but nothing seems to work.

Is there anyway anyonw has figured out to get the stand by function. what should i install to get it working

AAhh wait a min i right clicked in the task bar but i did not see any selection about the standby function. does that mean that it has not been installed correctly on my computer. If so what do i do to enable this.

please elaborate...

I think you should check your Power Settings in the Control Panel and make sure you have ACPI enabled. With this I believe you can even set your power button on your case to put your computer into standby. Of course your mobo will have to support it but your comp looks new enough for it to work.

That thing is dependent on the kind of powersupply you got or what windows detects your powersupply is capable of doing. there is nothing you can do about it in the options. 🙁

You don't have to have ACPI enabled but you do either have to have ACPI or APM enabled. Check in the power capplet in control panel.

The option to add standby (or hibernate, if so enabled) to the start menu is in the long list of checkboxes when you right click the task bar to set start menu options.
