How to get the puke smell out?

Ok, so Friday night some friends and I had a lil too much fun. To make a long story short had my friend puke on the carpet in my room. I have cleaned the carpet three times but it still smells. Every day since Saturday I've left the windows wide open (I'm in MN so it's been FREAKIN cold) left the ceiling fan on, bought 3 of those things you plug into the wall and invested in two cans of air freshner. Basically, it's Monday night, and it still smells, what else can I do?

Febreeze... baking soda... lysol... (sprayed directly on the area... you have to kill all the bacteria and whatnot)

Supposedly Sam's club sell's stuff that works really well. Odo-ban or something like that.

cleaning your carpet won't help. Go to Walmart, pick up a bottle of "Kid and Pet Stain Remover".

It's an enzyme based solution that will effectively eat whatever is decomposing in your carpet (the decomposition is creating the odiferous pleasantness you currently are experiencing ;) ).

In the area of the puke, soak it in the solution, place a fan over it, and let it air dry (it has to air dry to be effective).

ta-da - no more puke smell!

Everything listed in this thread so far is just a coverup.

Thanks for the replies. I've done lysol, dish soap and this speciality carpet cleaner. The spot is all clean, just still has that smell of vomit.

Did you use a Steam Vacuum? One that actually shampoos the carpet, sucks that up, rinses the carpet and sucks that up?

Lysol isn't a coverup, it kills bacteria. I've used it several times to get rid of mildew in cars.

And I think the Odo-ban that I suggested is the same stuff you're talking about.

Ah, ok then, i find steam vacuums extremely useful, even used one to clean poop smell from my car after a mechanic stunk it up.

There will still be a faint puke smell. Lysol kills bacteria, but because the carpet has padding, it will still hold the vomit and thus produce a smell because the vomit is decomposing.

Enzyme solutions break down the puke. You can also find some enzyme solutions in the pet area of walmart, under cat urine odor remover.
