How to get tanned with sunblock on?

I spent several hours outside weeks ago, and my arms got burnt because i had no sunblock on. But now they look incredible. Last week, i put sunblock on and spent several hours tanning. Even though i spent more time on the sun, and it was hotter, i didn't tan at all, and i mean AT ALL. So what am i to do? I'm thinking of tanning without sunblock, but for limited amounts of time, so i don't get burned badly. The way i see it, the odds of me dying from skin cancer on any given year are 1 / 30,000, so it's not exactly a risk.

Lower SPF? I use SPF 30 Bullfrog all summer long and I get plenty tan nonetheless...

You either protect yourself from the sun, and don't tan/burn or you dont and you do tan/burn. If you want to tan without burning, don't stay out in the sun for as long, but do it more often. You'll get pretty tan after a summer by spending 2 hours a day in the sun, and you shouldn't burn much, even without sunblock.

Of course itw il lbe faster if you can live with getting burned a bit.

Lower SPF, or tan without sunblock for short periods of time so you don't get sunburned.

Sunblock is what it sounds like... it blocks the sun for a certain amount of time. If you want to get a better tan, get suntanning lotion. The stuff can get expensive though. I use a tanning salon, but typically a bottle costs about $50... but that works out to about $3-4 per application.

No idea... probably is a huge markup. But when you break it down, it's only a few dollars per application.

No, you never want to actually get burned... once you do, it means you've been in the sun too long.

Just get some proper tanning lotion, and you won't need to be in the sun as long... and you'll get a much better looking tan.

Doesn't sunblock simply extend the time you can spend on the sun without getting burned? i.e. 10 mins normal, 50 mins with SPF 5 on? So then, wouldn't 8 minutes without sunblock and 45 with produce the exact same results?

Yes, that's why sunblock is useless for tanning.
