How to get Serial ATA in RAID

Some motherboard already have it integrated... if it doesn't... yes you'll need an extra controller card.

Depends on the kind of RAID you're looking for. Some motherboards like the IS7 only support RAID 0. The IC7 supports RAID 0 or 1. There are no integrated SATA RAID 5 controllers that I'm aware of.

Rocket Raid 1640 has RAID 5 support.

no need for a special software raid card. just do software raid in software instead of in proprietary drivers.
