Hi friends,

I have installed windows 8.1 professional. The problem is whenever I boot up my PC I get a screen connecting to sky drive(eventually it fails to connect as internet is not connected on boot up, after that windows try to install apps saying "We are setting up your computer" which takes 15 mins of colourfull transitions to complete. Only after all this I get to see my desktop or windows tiles screen.

Why is this happening, can anyone tell me how to get rid of this unwanted skydrive connecting check and app installing??

Thanks guys, I have created a local account and also disabled the sky drive but i still received the windows app installing screen transition :(.

After login into my local account, I receive a screen with " Hi we are setting up your computer" text and after that I see blank page without tiles. ( from where I can't access anything on screen except loggin out of account)

I found a work around for this but every time I have to see my desktop with this workaround.

1. If I trigger task manager by pressing crlt+alt+del after transition,
2. log out of my local account
3. then again login to my local account I can see my normal desktop tiles page.

This is very much annoying....:(

Did you try the link I posted? that should allow you to convert your old account to a local account as well.

the only other thing i could suggest is if you right click on the task bar, -> properties select boot to desktop and see what that does

Very infrequently, when logging into my machine when I had Windows Vista and Windows 7 installed, I witnessed an issue wherein Windows couldn't access some information and simply created a new temporary account when logging in with my regular credentials. It sucks to see it is ( or might still be) around.

When you have finally logged in, do you have access to all your files? I suspect Windows 8 is either creating temp accounts for you or unable to access certain files/folders and simply creating new data at login.

As such, I have three ideas:
1.) Create a new account, Microsoft or local shouldn't matter, and see if the issue persists for the new user.
2.) Examine/disable all programs that boot on login
3.) Check your folder permissions for your local account directory

I have tried the same but still same thing is happening, I see the same text "Hi we are setting up your desktop" on each login.

why can't I just disable this?

If you've switched to a local account, you have disabled SkyDrive. The issue is Windows either can't save or recall your account settings.

After logging on, has windows reinstalled all of the default apps? Do you have access to all your files? What's inside the C:\Users folder?

It is the incomplete installation of apps that made me think he should clean install. Fully realize he could simply switch to a local account but that wouldn't cure the main issue. Have to believe something went amiss in his first install.
