I am not dual booting. I only have vista installed. but when I turn the computer on, I have to select vista in order for it to boot.

This all happened after a guy at my house powered off the machine while it was in the middle of going into the hybrid/standby mode.

how can I get rid of this menu?

The only thing I can think of is go to control panel > administrative tools > system configuration and click the boot tab. In the text box it should say "Microsoft Windows Vista (C:\Windows) : Current OS; Default OS"

If you have other options there delete them and just leave the one I mentioned there.
