Hello guys. I am trying to create an image of this Workstation that will be loaded on identical systems later on. I am using ImageCentr 5.0 (Powerquest product). I would like to put image on a bootable cd, but the image is around 850mb. Hibernaitons is disabled. I will run sysprep 1.1. Does anybody know how can i get rid of pagefile.sys. Maybe somebody knows how to script it with ImageCentre? I tried using ERD2002 bootable cd to delete the file, i was successful, but ImageCentre did not want to create an image saying "Partition was impoperly dismounted". ANy ideas guys?

Thanks

Right-click on "My Computer". Go to "Advanced>Performance>Settings>Advanced>Virtual Memory" This is where you set the size of your page file. If you have over 512MB of RAM you can *probably* set it at zero. If you have less you should leave it set at 20-50MB.

Most imaging programs are smart enough not to really put the pagefile in the image, and even if they do it compresses really well since it's just filled with PAGEPAGEPAGE over and over when it's not in use.

Thank you for ur replies guys. I guess i could change the pagefile size before i image the box, but i wonder if it will reset itself back to what it's supposed to be. This pc has 256mb of ram. I do want to have the pagefile to exist after the computer runs through the mini-setup (sysprep). As far as compressing the file, Neither Ghost nor DriveImage doing a good job with that, the file on my system is around 300mb. Anymore ideas guys?

THanks

Drive Image does an outstanding job of compressing the pagefile.sys. I image my Swapfile partition that has the permanent swap files for Win98se (500MB) and Win2000 (1GB) along with 4 MB of misc boot and dos files. The final compressed image is always less than 5MB with smart sector translation. I have also had to restore this image and it restores and works perfectly as well. Perhaps you have the wrong options set?
