I used to have NT 4.0, just switched to win98se. I used fdisk to repartition the drive. Works fine for the primary partition, but the remaining 9 gig or so is stuck in NTFS. Fdisk doesn't recognize it. Any idea on how to reclaim this?

FDISK won't touch or even see an NTFS partition.

Just use the WinNT bootdisks to kill it or d/l a small DOS partitioning program that'll handle NTFS.

It is much easier to boot a win9x boot disk with delpart.exe then to run through 3 boot disk, installing raid drivers if u have them to delete a partition

Article here

Use the Delpart tool (Delpart.exe) to delete the NTFS partition. The Delpart tool is included with the Microsoft Windows NT 3.1 Resource Kit only. It is not included in the Windows NT 3.5, 3.51 or 4.0 Resource Kits. The Windows NT 3.1 Resource Kit is available for download from the following Web site:

delpart.exe here

Instruction
Boot Win9X disc
run delpart.exe
select partition and hit DEL buttion
Click FIle -> Save and reboot

You could always use something like Patition Magic or something like that.

You can edit the disk and change the space from NTFS to freespace.

Then use FDISK format etc.

but wouldn't you rather use something free then to shell out 45 bucks for software that you may only use once or twice till you really get into reparitioning hd time :)

If you are lucky, you can use a dell or compaq restore cd and itll recognize your mobo, therefore letting you reinstall the system software, and it will del ntfs (i just had to do it), itll format first, back into fat32, and then as soon as you see it installing software, cancel it, (i actually hit esc right on: "0 files copied so far") and then load any OS as you know how to.

worked for me:) of course, i endedup reinstalling win2k after all that trouble.

hey its ghetto and bootleg procedure, but at least it saved me some cash.
