How to get rid of new notification icon

OK, so it's a browser setting for general website notifications & not just the setting for these forums. Now i get what all the fuss is about.

Used Ghostery and blocked OneSignal.....bell gone, thankfully.

I installed Brave Browser and blocked OneSignal. No more Bell of Annoyance.

I just fired up Chrome to check. Nope, still there for me.

In Edge (dark) it now is a very tiny bell in the upper right corner. That's like it used to be as I recall.

I am on mobile, still get it it's even worse, because it takes a bigger chunk of the screen!

The new site overlords will never get rid of it. Push notifications, no matter how intrusive the tactic may be, makes them believe they're getting increased monitization out of the site with returning users.

I'll check that out. I got an S9 a couple months ago am just getting my feet wet. I was a Windows Phone guy, but nobody writes apps for that anymore, so am making the jump to Android, which to me looks like the sane choice (have never bought anything Apple that didn't grow on a tree!).

I suggest people watch "The Social Dilemma". It explains perfectly why we continually see this giant notifications bell. It's was obvious to me why it was placed there by the new owners as I'm in the software industry. The movie explains it easily. It comes down to "engagement" and "monitization" in a way that looks like it benefits the user, but actually is implemented in a way that benefits the site owners bottom line. The same goes with the forced private message "newsletter'.

There's nothing shocking about that. Anandtech is a business, and they don't want to end up in the red at the end of their fiscal year.

Every business that wants to stay in business cares about their bottom line. Just like Slickdeals wasn't created to save people money, it was created to referral link payments to the site's owners from various retailers.
