I've been living in my new apartment for about a month and i have a fruit fly problem in my kitchen, i'm absolutely swarmed! I guess i left some food out too long or something...

What's the best way to get rid of them?

Wipe everything down with Clorox Cleanup. Also make sure to vacuum and mop the floor.

I'll say bazooka.

fruit flys are too small to activate the detonator on the projectile from a bazooka

perhaps flamethrower would be more appropriate

Build a trap. Take a piece of paper, roll it into a cone with a small opening on the point. Put some pieces of fruit in a soda bottle or jar and stick the point of the cone in the bottle. Then tape around the mouth to secure the cone to the container. Fruit flies will go into the cone but will find it hard to get out of the small hole.

A better approach, however, is to construct a trap by placing a paper funnel (rolled from a sheet of notebook paper) into a jar which is then baited with a few ounces of cider vinegar. Place the jar trap(s) wherever fruit flies are seen. This simple but effective trap will soon catch any remaining adult flies which can then be killed or released outdoors.

clean up. If you don't already, keep a hooded trash can and empty daily.

put all food that you can in the fridge. Like fruits that are able to (not bananas), bread, and nuts. Keeps them fresh longer anyway.

Omg fruit flies are gross!

Some girl back in 6th grade left a banana in her locker for the WHOLE YEAR...and at the end of the year when she was cleaning it out...omfg. I'd just burn the apartment down.

N/M...just saw your post. Well, I guess that flamethrower isn't sounding too bad, now.
