How to get rid of cd scratches

I've got a ton of tiny scratches on an important cd, but i dont want to throw down 20 bucks for the skip doctor or any other cleaner. Is there any else that works, maybe a homebrew thing.

Clear coat liquid car polish. Use it with a soft cotton cloth on the scratched areas. you can actually polish the whole disc with it. Scratches from hub to disc edge are less important than circular scratches. Work on the deepest scratches first. You should at some point be able to read the disc with EAC or IsoBuster. At the point you are able to completely copy the disc to a hard drive you should back it up.
