how to get rid of a bruise/swelling

So about half an hour ago I was practicing softball, and I took a line drive in my shin (stupidly, i was pitching, and it being BP i was standing closer to the plate). Long story short, it hurts like hell. I've popped a pair of asprin and I'll put ice on it. Any other advice from anyone?

TIA

Asprin has a tendancy to thin your blood, and will possibly cause the bruise to get worse...

(asprin, not tylenol, ibuproffin, etc.)

The ice will help for now, but after today, the only way to help get rid of the bruise is through massage and heat. Take a hot bath every day and gently massage the area. This will help your body get in there and clean out all of the misplaced blood.

Wear shinguards next time?

When I sprained my ankle--the swelling was the size of half a tennis ball--, they gave me tylenol (anti-inflamation), ankle wrap, and a sheet of instruction for icing the ankle, soaking it in warm water, and some ankle exercise as it heals.

Whatever you do with the black and blue spot, you don't want to hurt those already inflamed skin.
