it still works perfectly, no scratches on the chassis or screen.
i'd like to give it away or donate it somewhere but it's difficult to move (250 lbs).
or if it's actually worth anything, sell it on CL.

I recently sold my old Panasonic Tau 36" HDTV on CL. Within 2 hours of posting there were 3 responses. Got $100 for it but the best part was they lugged that beasty away themselves.

You could also donate it to Goodwill, claim it's worth $500 and write that off on your taxes. You'd probably have to take it yourself to Goodwill though.

sell it on cl as long as you are comfortable with letting strangers into your house.

that's the most uncomfortable part.
meh, $50 seems to be the going rate. i'll just put it on the sidewalk with a FREE sign on top of it.

We get to put them out on the curb on garbage day and the city collects it to go to recycling.

40" sony wega or whatever that used to sell for 3k now sell for as little as 6 bucks on ebay...if you pick it up of course. those big tube tv's are unshippable, and hard to sell as hell.

We sold a 57" Sony HD projection TV over the summer when I was moving out of my apartment. Sold it to a group of girls from the local university who were moving into a house across the street from campus. Only bad part was having to help them move the 275lb 5 ft. tall monstrosity down the stairs.

And yet a 40" XBR CRT with a good tube will have PQ that's better than all but a few LCD or Plasmas out there. If I had the space I would buy a 40" XBR in a heartbeat.

no, you could have said that 10 years ago maybe. now esp with a faded old tube, no way. not to mention these were not super fine dot pitch sony tubes, they are coarse, and so the actual resolution is probably less than 1080i, and 36" inches at that for 16:9, so it is essentially a 300lb soft 720p equivalent. the only tubes that looked really good were those super fine pitch ones that were more recent.

The only thing those old tv's do well is sd, 4:3, i'll give them that. But so what, that is the kind of tv i watch out of the corner of my eye.

I have a Sony of the same size from about 2002 or so. Still works. Need to dump it for a 50 inch widescreen model sometime in the near future.

Moving it down the stairs is the easy part. Now the other way...

You could sell it if it's still in great condition. They're still the best for playing old console games.

LOL....I made a thread on getting rid of my beast about a year ago. It involved craigslist a guy who had no business trying to lift a TV and bad female drivers.

I remember my friend and I dragging mine up the stairs @ my house. I later sold it to him for $250, and we dragged it back down.

I sold my 12 year old JVC 27" CRT TV this week for $50. through a free ad paper. WV is next to the bottom in per capita income so old cheap outdated technology stuff sells.
Replaced it with an LG 32" LCD TV.
