How to get power hum out of my new Altec speakers.

I recently bought an Altec Lansing VS-4121, 2.1 speaker system. I love everything about it except for the power hum (120 Hz) which sems excessive. Unfortunately, I can't flip the power plug to see if that helps as the plug is keyed and can go in the AC socket only one way. I shorted the inputs at the far end of the audio signal cable that came with it and tried it, but that made no diff. Will I have to go inside and re-cap it's PS with something more effective?

Could be the filter capacitor.Since you recently bought it, you might consider RMAing it.
