I have a copy of Windows 2000 Pro which has a pretty big scratch across it.

To email MS to ask for a new CD they ask you for the PID and then it gives the directions of how to get it from off the instilation. Well I run XP and my 2000 copy hasn't been used in awhile so I don't have it installed on anything and I can't figure out how to find the PID just by reading the CD. Needless to say the disc won't install because it has the scratch on it...

Any ideas? Thanks.

The PID is not stored on the CD, it is generated when you install 2000 with your license key. It is not the license key.

You're going to have to install it to get that number :)

VMWare should do the trick ;)

If it's a corp version then the product id is in the i386 folder in a file called WINNT.SIF open it with notepad.
