OK, my wife has a laptop that she had during college that she had some Novell login/password at boot and she hasnt used it for over a year now since she graduated because she has been using my pc but now she has a new job that she could use the laptop for and she would love to get the data off of it. Im not a laptop but but I told her we could just format the drive and install XP on it but she would loose the data. I know she wants to save or at least see what is on it, so and i know this question is kind of borderline, but what would be my best option?

Thanks

ghost the partition as a gho file, resume the data file under xp, using some software to open the gho file.

you don't need to go through all that, just uninstall the novell client. Its under your local area connection properties window, you should see the novell client listed under what items the connection uses, simply hit uninstall from that menu. I believe thats the correct way to do it. If that doesnt work, check her universities support page, they should have instructions on how to remove the novell client.
