Say this "I can tell a man is guilty just by looking at him. See that man over there, he musta killed a man cause he sure looks guilty." Boom, no way in hell they let you in the court room.

Right. You might get fined for contempt of court instead.

Some people have no respect for their own country/county/state. It is pathetic. How would you like it if you were charged with a crime, you were innocent and nobody wanted to serve on your jury? Then you end up with a bunch of ignorant smacktards on your jury who don't know what is going on and they put you in the slammer for doing nothing wrong? COME ON PEOPLE do you civic duty, go in when called, be honst, and if picked out of the pool to serve on a jury, do it as good as you can, someone's life & future could depend on it. It is also sort of fun and quite interesting to see the judicial system in action.

f civic duty. I have better thing to do then sever on jury duly. Also should a person that is making $100 an hour go and sit on jury duty and make minimum wage just because it?s his civil duty? No. As for how would I feel if I was charge with murder for ex and was innocent well that is my lawyer job to get me of the charges and if I get convicted then it will be his job to appeal on base of incompetent jury

Ylen13, just when I was beginning to think your posts couldn't get any more moronic, you outdo yourself. I think you've hit rock bottom and started to dig. Civic duty is not something for you to decide whether it applies to you or not. You do have a civic duty as a citizen. It's amazing to me that you believe how much money someone makes should determine if they need to fulfill the obligation to serve, let alone whether you feel that you have "better things to do". Please grow up. Fast.

So you saying a person that is making $100 an hour should take financial hardship as he will be only getting minimum wage when he could make $100 an hour just so he can satisfy his civic duty??

Not only "should" but "is required by law to."

Yes.

You enjoy the protection of this country's judicial system. You are also obligated by law to serve on a jury if summoned. You can't have one without the other.

YES, THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE IS SAYING.

Yup, I'm willing to bet being a citizen and part of this society would be what gave said person the opportunity to be making $100/hour, so having to give a little at worst once every three years is hardly unreasonable.

Too many replies to read them all. Has anyone noticed how goofy it is to have "freedom" in your nick and skip jury duty? Dude, serve your country and get over it. You should be proud to do jury duty.

Now, as for flaking, you are a dork: you could have postponed! At least in NY you can postpone once by doing no more than making a call, even the day before! How hard is that? Bah, I have no pity for you.

Tell them you're an illegal immigrant, and as such, don't have to perform jury duty.
