From the MBP in OSX? Not gonna happen without a transcoding dlna/upnp server, like ps3mediaserver. But then what's the point if your interest is 1080p? Quality will suffer tremendously.

If you run something like windows 7 within bootcamp, then maybe using the media center extender so long as you have an appropriate mkv splitter, like haali, installed. Even then, if your mkvs have dts audio tracks, don't count on sound working. And video quality will still suck in any case.

Until MS programs in native mkv support, it's just going to be more hassle than it's worth with the 360.

I suggest something like a WDTV live instead.

Yeah, you'll need Windows to use the Media Center extender (assuming mkv, you'll need the DivX mkv codec installed as well). But I think Connect360 will allow it to share video on your MBP through the dashboard.

Google is your friend.

PS3MediaServer, Tversity, Playon (and others), are all media serving applications. Using a UPnP stream to broadcast the user chosen files to devices that are UPnP ready, such as an Xbox 360, PS3, and various other devices.

At the same time, the program will transcode the file to a format that the device on the other end can handle.

I said PS3MediaServer is your best bet, because they have support for OSX.

Of course, if you want to just use your flash drive then something like Handbrake will run on OSX to convert the files to something the Xbox 360 can read. Click on the link in my original post to find the 360's supported formats, that will help you choose options in Handbrake.
