There's the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the taskbar and it has my hard drive in it. I've tried switching my hard drive to all the different SATA ports on my motherboard but it doesn't make a difference.

Is there any way to make that go away?

Thanks,

Have you tried updating the drivers? I have heard default os install drivers doing this on 'hot swappable' SATA connections before.

Why do you want it to go away ?
That is a feature that all HOTPLUG supported devices have.

If you are really annoyed, then hide the icon.
You can also turn off HOTPLUG support off in the BIOS on some machines, but again, I wouldn't bother.

This usually happens when you install Intel's Rapid Storage driver utility. It annoys me as well. What I usually do is unpack the RST utility and just save the drivers and install them via device manager. The drive icon wont show in safely remove hardware icon this way.

I have RST installed, but no add/remove icon.

I did have that happen when I had a RAID controller enabled on my last rig, though.

what sata ports are you using on what system?

I ran in to this when I plugged my 1T backup drive into the asmeda ports , having all the 4 intel ports used.
-not wanting my backup drive removable I trashed my internal cd\dvd for a external cd\dvd usb drive and put the backup drive back to the intel ports and removed the drivers for asmeda controller.

isn't this an option in device manager? optimize for performance/quick removal or some such?
