how to get my dvd drive to STOP SPINNING!&*#$%

if i put in a disk. the drive will spin up and open whatever is neessary. but if i close the app/window. it takes like 5 mins to stop making noise (i have a silent pc). how woud i go about stoping this? or is it normal.

Some drives have utilities that can modify the spin-down time. Plextor I know provided the capability at one point. There may also be other software that can be used on any drive. I don't think 5 minutes would be a normal default though. Mine spins down within one minute.

Even better, get a drive like the Pioneer that allows you to program the firmware to quiet mode so that you barely hear the drive! A must for movies!

If you have Nero burning Rom installed you can try using Nere's tool called " Drivespeed "

An easy way is to remove the CD as soon as you close the app window.

Exactly.

I remember some sort of free utility that does this too. But it didn't work for me when I tried using it.
