Alright I have an issue... I lost my partition some how but it hasnt been written on so it should still have all the data on there (BTW it was NTFS) can anyone help me out and tell me ways to get the data back. It shouldnt be that hard since nothing has been written on the drive since this happened..... please help me out there 🙂 I dont want to lose gigs and gigs of data.

Put another drive in the machine. Install W2K to the new drive.

Install the W2K Resource Kit.

Put the 'lost partition' drive in the machine.

Use DiskProbe to get the first sector from the drive with the lost partiton.

Examine the partition table. Recreate it by hand if necessary.

Lots of work. But you feel like a GOD when it works!

No, I'm not going to do your research for you. There are plenty of references out there that describe the format of the master boot record.

Did it, the partition data seems to be 100% gone. So unless I can somehow figure this out by hand since it was one big NTFS partition that took up the whole drive.... this wont work 🙁

Do you know 2 things...

#1 Does it work with NTFS
#2 Will it work without a partition at all? If not can I just make a new partition but not format it and then use it?

oh man, tough luck! I don't know about recreating the partition but if the data is important, there are data recovery services
