I am an advanced Windows/EIDE kind of guy, and this Linux/SCSI drive problem is driving me nuts. The problem is that when I try to do a clean install of Linux (Red Hat 7.1) onto my new Gateway 6400 server with a single 9 GB SCSI drive I get the error "No valid devices were found on which to create new filesystems. Please check your hardware for the cause of this problem". The SCSI bios detects the IBM drive during boot up, and I have verified that the BIOS is set for SCSI operation. Is there a step in the SCSI BIOS setup that I am missing? Any ideas/help with this from you LINUX/SCSI gurus would be greatly appreciated.

The SCSI controller on my motherboard is an LSI Logic 53C1010. I can't find any specific references to this controller on the Red Hat site (thanks for the linkage, MereMortal), so drivers may be the problem. I went to the LSI site and found the most recent drivers for LINUX here and downloaded a floppy image. I will re-try the install using the floppy based drivers tonight. Thanks for the info!
