How to get IP of someone from AIM?

I'm trying to remote login to my machine at home (have a dynamic dns set up to auto update the IP). However, it is not working right now, but it was working earlier (4-5 hours?). I know the internet at home is not down, because my brother, sister and mother are all logged into AIM. However, they are all sleeping.

So either A: the IP changed and my dyndns has not updated, B: the machine crashed, or C: the power flashed off.

B is unlikely because the machine has been running stable for > 1 year and has never crashed. C is possible since I have seen several lightning flashes out the window tonight. However, I can't do anything about this. So A is the only useful explanation. Now I just need to get the new IP. I can send a message to one of my family members and get an auto reply, is that enough to get the new IP?

Haven't done it in ages, but I do believe once you open a direct connection to a person either via "Direct connection" or you are sending/receiving a file you can just run netstat and figure out what their IP is. It didn't work with straight up chatting because the messages are relayed through a central server.

This should work.

Direct connection requires the other person approve though. Correct?

if you have auto file accept on you could send yourself a file and netstat.

unless they have auto accept on, which none of my family members at home do :(

Looks like I'll have to wait until the morning to connect.

This should work.

This method works for most IM clients such as mesenger, ICQ and so on.
Problem is, do you have auto accept on recieving files? :)

Load up wireshark and capture the packets. Or use netstat in a command prompt to view active TCP connections.
