I used freeware utility HDDScan to get the model number of the HD inside my new WD Elements 2TB USB HD (it's in the topic title). How do I get specific info such as 7200 vs 5400, Green/Black, and etc.? A search at WDC's website has zero hits, Google search hasn't been fruitful.

I think so, but I can't be 100% sure.

the current blacks are WD2002FAEX, and the blues dont go to 2TB.

and the re4's are WD2003FYYS

It's the firmware which generally designates the specific model since rarely changed without hardware changes.

It's not the SN. It's part of the model number. I think there are iterations on the 2TB WD green drive, maybe not many.

Yes WD20EARS is 2 TB green drive. There are versions with 3 (new) and 4 (old) platters.
Teh ones with 3 are supposedly faster. However since it's a USB drive it won't matter anyway.

I think I heard that the 3 platter drives are more reliable. When I got my first, I checked to see that it was 3 platter and was pleased. ATM, I don't have a machine that will run a 2TB drive, so I'm limited to USB storage for large drives. My desktop motherboards are pretty old.
