Okay, this is first class scam here..and has affected thousands of people.

More details can be found here http://www.transconscam.com/

The story then, basically, is that a friend of mine went to this open call thing where they told him that he had a good look.. so then they set him up with a business call, where they flattered him to death, saying that he was "perfect" for modelling. They then told him he was a part of a select few who they would actually sign up, and ended up paying ONE THOUSAND dollars to get his picture on their website, which they claim will get immediate responses from agencies.

A month has passed then since he signed up, and nothing..he's out a whole grand, until he actually did some research about this company.

Further research finds this method for getting a refund:

http://chicago.craigslist.org/ars/10136390.html

Where basically you complain to the CC company..and in this case he actually used a debit card which they say is okay..and that through this process his money will be back.

Any words of advice here?

If he was vain enough to believe he could be a model and pay for it then maybe...

No, i'm just kidding lol... how much did he pay?

Dollar amounts should be posted numerically to avoid such confusion

Sorry to hear it though Syringer, maybe someone at UCLA can help you out.

Seriously though. If you have to pay someone before they give you any gigs, it's usually a scam.
Most of my friends who have modeled or acted were recruited or went to an agency who got them a job THEN took a chunk out of the paycheck. I agree with Tyler. You need smarter friends.

I didn't mean to set off this firestorm of criticism for this guy's friend.

aYe, I don't know what you can do, go ahead and have you friend call the bank to see if you can get a refund for fraud. I'm sure they have insureance for things like these.

man, they did a whole 20/20 or dateline episode on this place. This place sucks. All they do is bother you to death for money is you are halfway decent looking. Than they beg you for some more money. They aint even a modelling agency.

omg they had a whole hour on just this on 20/20, or was it primetime or dateline, i forget:) they had people go undercover and get hired as the recruiters. its sorta a scam, but it sorta isn't. they do get u bit jobs ..very low scale modeling, but they aren't truely scamming u. u kinda deserve it when u get suckered by them, its ur head.

I can see how people can get suckered into this very easily. I can see women being a prime target, men are probably harder to convince.

I dated a model once, a foot model.

Whether your friend will admit it or not I'll bet you they were thinking "this is too good to be true" in the back of their mind.

Well guess what?

I disagree.

Next time you're scammed, I'm going to call you a dumbass for even dealing with the scammer in the first place.

Hindsight is 20/20.

I work at a hotel and these wanna be model agencies come all the time and have meetings. They put ads in newspapers and get a lot of kids to come down. It's funy a lot of kids think "This is their chance"
