on monday, i went to a dim sum place for lunch in richmond with a female friend. the place was packed to the rim due to some sort of asian baby shower party. we pretty much got the last table in the same room.
at anyrate, our table was right next to the kids table from the party, one of the kids was just running around the table, having a good time until i guess, his dad, stopped him, gave him a stern look and yell out something in cantonese. And like german, cantonese is at the top when it comes to instill fear when it is being used for scolding.
the kid sat down and looked sadly in my direction. i gave him a sympathy look and a shrug. i mean, i'm all for laughing at other people's misfortune, but a kid could be scarred emotionally if i did that. he cracked a smile and figured that i was his only friend there.
the dim sum server was very slow due to the party, and i was getting hungry and thristy. i started to grumble to my friend after fifteen minutes. i guess at this point, the kid heard me and he took the 2 liter coke from his table and gave it to me. i guess i shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. besides, refusing it might be traumatic for a kid his age.
when the servers started to haul out plates of dumplings to their table, the kid, would sneak a little metal container here and there filled with various dumplings to me. (note to self, stay away from chives dumpling next time)
i had a big lunch that day, i only had to pay for a pot of jasmine tea, while my friend paid for her roast pork with egg noodles.
