how to get four speaker output with SB Live and powerDVD?

is it possible to get four channels for the front left and rights and rear left and rights with power DVD and a SB live value? i mean can i get four different channels insteads two channels for both front and rear? thanks

Good question, I've wondered the same thing myself 🙂

What I've read is that PowerDVD or WinDVD (maybe both) do a Dolby Surround 5.1 downgrade to 4 channels. That way you can use all four channels of sound instead of just left and right stereo.

Yes, first make sure you have liveware installed and have 4 speakers setup in audiohq.

Then open powerdvd (I have used versions 2.55 and 3.0)...

Right Click on the window->Configuration->Audio->Audio Output->4 Speaker Output

WinDVD multi-channel (for 5.1 speakers) must be purchased in retail stores or online. You can't download it off the internet.

installed liveware 3.0 and still can't get 4 speaker output...the only audio output available is 'wave out', 'direct sound' and 'spdif output'...how can i get 4 speaker output to work? thanks

Are you using the digital audio connector on the back of your DVD-ROM to connect to your Live Value? It requires a SPDIF cable...I'm not real sure if
this will help.

i'm using power DVD version 3.0 with 2 pairs of speakers plugged into the front and rear of the SB live value...i would like to get 4 channels but the audio out config doesn't show any 4 speaker setup at all...thanks for your help

Try re-installing PowerDVD? I'm not sure if this will help, but I think PowerDVD detects your hardware during installation, so if you make any changes it won't update its settings later (I could be wrong on this, however).

As a last resort, you can always use DirectSound for output, and set the Audio Mode to DirectSound 3D.
