I don't really care about washing my truck, and I went through some mud a couple months ago. I got around to washing it and realized the mud 'residue' stained my tires. It won't come off with scrubbing either...

ideas?

Well, I think that part of the problem might be the rubber has had some of its wax/oil wicked out of the top surface layer. Back to black or some other tire shiner should do the trick. This happens on brands new tires

Try some full strenght, Heavy-Duty cleaning agent such as Formula 409, Fantastic, Power Clean, Purple Power, etc.
If that fails, get some scouring powder (Comet, etc.) and a Scotch-Brite pad. Works for me every time.
Be sure to follow up with some ArmorAll or STP "Son of a gun" Tire Foam to seal them so that it doesn't happen again.

hmm.. I tried tire/wheel cleaner and it didn't help that much. Also I went to a 'do it yourself' wash place and used theirs and again.. didn't help. I tried simple green, which seemed to help a little.. I'll try comet, then I'll try the tire shine junk
