how to get data off bad hard drive?

The Harddrive won't show up in My computer and when i tried to boot off it i get a Blue screen Windows shutdown. It was in a computer that got Zapped. I assume a PC Repair person gets big money to do this, anyone have any suggestions? If only i could at least see it in my computer as my 2nd drive. Any idea's? :disgust:
 
does it show up in your bios? if not it will need to be sent to one of those data recovery specialists. (very expensive) aren't you glad you make constant and thorough backups of your critical data?
