How to get certain Android apps on a Nook HD + /

How can I get Android apps that are not "tablet compatible" on my sons Nook HD +? There has to be a way, isn't there? When he goes to the playstore, he can access and get most apps. But those such as Fallout Shelter, says it is not "tablet compatible? I went to the playstore and downloaded it on to my Nexus 7, and it plays just fine.

I know the Nook has it's own B&N version of android, but how can I get around this? Google was NOT my friend in this search....

Try copying the .apk file from your tablet to his tablet.

The other option is to wipe everything and install a 3rd party ROM like Cyanogenmod.
