Ok, I was really, really bored today (sick and I can't concentrate well enough to play online :( so I just browsed the forums. I remembered playing Q2 with my old comp and getting about 1200fps somewhere.

So I fired up the demo, 320x240, secret place in first level, open gl. 8bit textures, lowest texture quality.

3200fps. seems kinda low, considering the 1200 was with a GF256.

Any way to improve this? will removing the textures help?

Only reply if you're as bored as I am and want to test it! :D

they remove textures that are not hidden? the detanatorfx driver i run remove no textures that are visible to me, as a mattter of fact i can tell no differance between the detantorfx and previous detanators. Get a voodoo5 and run 98SE, it has a thing in it called HSR algorythm, hack the regestry to enable it in the 1.04.01 drivers and set it as high as it will go. you will not be able to play it, but the FPS would probably be better than my geforce4

If you increase your FPS to a high enough rate, do you go back in time?

Why exactely do you want a frame rate that high anyway. It doesnt get any smoother the higher it goes you know.

The human eye cannot tell the difference between 1500 and 3000 fps, although the 3000 does "feel" smoother.

Dude, in Q2 you need 3500fps to do certain jumps. You get killed online unless you have 3500fps.
