I have a MSI Big Banf x79 motherboard and Nvidia 660ti both with great audio capabilities.
I am trying to connect the PC to the Bose Mc1 5.1 home theater.
I have three options output from the PC:
1. Optical
2. Coaxial
3. HDMI from the Nvidia card

Please help !any idea ????
Mike
I tried all of them and no sound on my Bose home theater.

HDMI would be easiest, but of course that only works if you're not using HDMI to output to your display. You'll also need to go into your Windows sound control panel to ensure that whatever output you're using is active.

Also, your Bose system may require you to assign the input to a particular component, in this case PC. Figuring that out will probably require reviewing the manual of the audio system.

Given that HDMI has both in the same cable he won't have the headaches associated with assigning a particular coax or optical in to a video input. The Bose also has an HDMI output to feed a display.

I really didn't want to say it but, man get rid of that Bose. The manual doesn't even have the decency to put the specifications of the HDMI port. Its version and what formats it accepts. Wow just wow.

With that out of the way is it fully updated? And if so you might just have to use optical or coax. That has to work.

In device manager try disabling then enabling the NVidia HDMI sound device.

The optical doesnt work?

Right click on the speaker in the windows task bar and goto properties...
You dont see an option that says Realtek Digital Output?

U need to change speaker out to Realtek Digital Output for the Optical Toslink cable to work.

Hello everyone!

I moved on a bit
I disabled the on-board audio, uninstall the msi realtek driver and left only the nvidia.
I can see the Bose on the playback device listed.

Still no sound even if the default device is shown as active and the green eq is moving as if there is a sound.
What other settings ?? I should try

THX

When you connected the HDMI cable to the audio receiver and then to the TV were both of them on? Your audio system is likely just bypassing the video signal and your card may think your display is off.

I have two cable from the video card : one goes to the monitor and the other HDMI is going to bose dvd imput. Then I had a another HDMI cable from bose to the monitor. I can switch the monitor imput from hdmi to dvi .DVI for the computer HDMI for the bose tv out where I can access the bose messed up settings.

In bios I don t have an option to enable or disable the Grahic card audio , I can only disable the onboard audio which I did. Meaning no realtek drivers active ( anyhow they are uninstalled).
When I open the playback devices I can see Nvidia recognizing the bose sound BOSE PS28 III.
My nvidia drivers are updated the control panel swhows me the bose HDMI imput as active. BUT NO SOUND!
What is going on ????

Had similar experiences, so I thought I would chime in.

First, I honestly would suggest you reconsider HDMI. It sounds like you're planning to watch movies (you have a 5.1 system), so it may be your best option, but my experiences with HDMI audio have been almost universally terrible. Displays going to sleep and reawakening would often knock my audio device offline and require me to disable then reenable HDMI audio, and it just didn't work without significant manual configuration in Linux. It also broke my 3D Vision setup if I didn't disable my secondary monitor with HDMI every time I used it.

For your situation it sounds like you have one HDMI cable you plan to use for just audio. In that case, you may have to modify settings on your receiver so that the A/V device always appears to be present on the link. My Yamaha receiver has a setting to take over reporting the device on the HDMI cable (instead of the monitor) which allows me to use it as an audio input even when your display isn't connected.

I'm not familiar with your specific audio equipment but you may also be able to use the video output on your receiver. For example-

Computer ----HDMI----> Receiver -----HDMI---> Display

This is only relevant if your receiver has video output- but since it takes HDMI, it should (?)

Thank you for your reply.
I have a Bose PS28 III receiver.
The Nvidia graphic card is hdmi audio capable. I connected the card through HDMI cable to the receiver, then from the bose receiver I have another HDMI cable going to my pc monitor. The monitor is also connected to the pc with a dvi. I can switch between the HDMI imput and DVI imput in the monitor without problems, so I can connect to the pc and with HDMI to the bose to control the settings of the receiver.
I can t understand why I don t have sound as far as the volume playback control is showing me that the bose receiver is recognized and I set it up as a default one ...and is showing me that is working.

What is wrong with this simple connection.??
thx

Why not disconnect the DVI connection that goes from PC to monitor, leaving only HDMI until you are done troubleshooting? Some BOSE receivers are quite finicky, as others said, you might have to use optical from Realtek output. It shouldn´t be a problem if all you need is 5.1 sound anyway.

Unbealiveble!!!
I did what you said. I disconnected the DVI from the Nvidia card and Monitor and I left only two HDMI cables. One from the Nvidia card to the Bose receiver and one from the bose receiver to the monitor.
The sound is on .
That was genius.
Thank you for all of you !
