Step 1: Have a well marked police cruiser behind you in thick traffic.
Step 2: When trying to take a left at the lights and your green arrow has gone from green to orange and is now on red instead of slowing down gun it through the intersection!

This happened a couple of nights ago - the guy/woman could have stopped easily for the white line but instead zoomed on up accelerating through a red light. I saw the cop do it and was like "damn those cops they don't care for the traffic laws either!" and then when her (nice looking cop) lights went on I clued in. What a blatant case of running a red light with a cop directly behind ya hehe

Heh, for me it was "commute at 85MPH in a 65 for months on end" :)

My sister got out of this one:
Her and a friend were sitting at a red light, (stopped) and a cop came up behind them. She had a blonde moment and drove through the red light. (it wasn't a busy light). Of course the cop pulled her over, and let her off on the grounds that it was such a bonehead thing to do.

step 1) put car in highest gear

step 2) plant foot firmly on gas pedal.

I used to drive around like that in my old truck all the time. Thing is, that truck only went 85mph. I got a ticket for 84 in a 75, another for 86 in a 70. I got pulled over for 90 (must have been down hill or something) in a 65, but no ticket. Got pulled over for 45 in a 25 (on a street that really should be 40 or 45) but no ticket. Pulled over for 65 in a 55, no ticket.

I don't do that in my car now though. Hell, if I did, I'd be cruising along at 150+mph.

I'm a much better driver than I used to be. It's a good thing i didn't get this car till I learned how to drive :)

For me it was "Try and catch up to the Ferrari 355 F1 Spider so I can get a better look at it".

The cop didn't seem to care that I was trying to catch a look at an awesome car :(.

AFAIK they only have a "passing" law in Europe.

No, but sometimes I wish they would.

Some states do. Here in Pennsylvania it is illegal to travel in the left lane of a highway. I think there might be some other states that enforce this as well.

Learn something new every day :).

I live in Georgia and previously in Michigan. Isn't enforced in either state.

Hehe....I blew by a trooper not too long ago on I-285 doing 90+ trying to get a look at a BMW Z8. I have no idea why he didn't bust me....sleeping perhaps?

AFAIK they will. I've never actually seen it happen, but I don't travel on the highways all that much. I don't think the law has been in effect for a year yet. I can't remember when they enacted it. This is another one of those state traffic laws that I think they enact to trap out of state drivers (like in Virginia and South Carolina and probably a few others where it is illegal to be driving with your windshield wipers on and your headlights off).

I've seen it enforced in NC. Some dumbass zoomed past 5 cars that were stacked up in the left lane (and cut the first one off getting back over in the left lane) and a cop came flying by two seconds later and pulled his ass over. Cracked me up. I'll only pass on the right if there's nobody else on the road and some tool is doing exactly the speed limit in the left lane and no amount of brights flashing or anything else will make him move over. Some people are just pathological about that for some reason.

Actually the passing on the right law is on the books for most of the states in the US. It however is not enforced all that often. PA has started cracking down on it in recent years since there is really no reason to right the left lane unless you are passing someone.

Washington state has the law that if you are going slower than the posted speed limit and have more than 5 cars behind you and you do not pull over to let the other cars pass, they can ticket you and I believe it is one point but I could be wrong. Its been 2 years since I've had to deal with that state.

Somebody in another thread posted that the California violation codes are online with descriptions.
Anyone have a link to these?

1. Be 18.
2. Ride a red 900 Ninja.
3. Take note of the posted speed limit. Assume that it does not apply to you, and double it. That will be YOUR speed limit.
4. Collect tickets.
5. Lose license.
6. Find that what they say about never forgetting how to ride a bicycle is true.

I think they tell people to drive in whichever lane they think is "pretty"

It really gets to me because many of the highways are 2 lanes each direction.

i live in washington and the law does exist. It only applies on two lane roads where it's unsafe to pass, but i've never heard of anyone getting busted for it.

Hehe....you learned the old "hauling ass with your knee down is for the track" rule the hard way, eh? At least you weren't one of the dumbasses they pull out of a ravine at Deal's Gap every single weekend. It's like squid mecca up there.

1) spend 5 minutes bouncing off speed limiter (110)
2) don't pay attention to pair of head lights 1/2 mile behind you (2 motorcycle cops)

"I was going 115 and I still couldn't catch up to you" :D

The instant I slowed down, the cops caught up to me and lit me up. Should have just kept the gas pedal in. :Q

actualy the rule exists but nobody follows it here.. Passing is always on the left.. the dmv manual says that.. but people on freeways dont follow it. on 2 lane highways they do.
