How to get a power supply

My friend's computer power supply blew, and I was wondering if anyone knew where one can be found online? It's one from an e-machines, and they told me it'd cost $50 to replace it, which I think is bull. It seems to be rare, so I'm trying to find places that might specialize with that kind of stuff. Thanks.

If the connection to the board is standard (AT or ATX) you should be able to use any old supply. Check out http://www.pricewatch.com, but make sure you get the correct type (probably ATX) and wattage! 🙂

[edit] Looks like you can get a 250w ATX for $20, shipped. 😀

Before you order anything anywhere you should be sure that the connector is a standard ATX connector. A very few manufacturers use proprietary connecors, although it's vey rare. If you can take the PS out and show it to a shop and ask them if it is - maybe verify with them that the PS is really bad too. Then you can order on-line fairly safely.

I think emachines uses a propriety ps. I remember a friend of mine had some difficulty finding a replacement.
