how to get a domain

whoiswes

Senior member
i have been trying to get a hold of the guy who owns haut.com for about a year now. the site has never been developed, even though this guy has had ownership since 1996.

the owner finally returned my email (after two months) and said he is not interested in selling, as it is his original family name (his last name is hautamaki). problem is, haut is MY last name, and hautamaki != haut.

as you can see, the domain is sitting there unused. i would be happy to share the domain or give him whatever subdomain he wants...

anything i can do legally or otherwise? if he had the site developed, i would drop the issue. but it is sitting there, completely unused, and it pisses me off.

sorry if this is completely off topic, but i'm getting frustrated.

TIA.

You could blackmail him or kill him or something.

But that's illegal.

He owns it and can do what he wants with it. Even if someone never opens up a can of olives you can't take those olives away based solely on the fact you want it and he's not using it.

Sucks. I can give you haut.haloonline.net if you want (for a fee of course 😀)

He bought it before you. I could see if you had a business called Haut Inc. before 1996 and maybe you'd have a case in court. Other than that you are SOL until he decides to either sell the domain or not re-new the domain.

Register hautamaki.com and then make it a parody site, mocking his family. Then trade him straight up when he starts crying.

lol, thanks for the info guys.

you are just reaffirming what i feared - that i'm SOL and have no legal standing.

here's hoping that he will let me have a subdomain or something....or at least a fvcking email address.

i just emailed the owners of hautamaki.com and hautamaki.net

the rest of the hautamaki TLD's are still available.....hmmm....

/too bad i'm broke, otherwise it would be fun time....

That was my first thought also. Sounds like a great plan!

I think its terrible that you even think of an idea such as taking legal action. He owns it. Whether you have a company called Haut from 1800, its his. He did not register it to hurt your name or anything, and he bought it for legitimate reasons.

Go to www.nissan.com and look -- It is terrible what nissan motor co is doing. You think nissan motor co should get the domain just cause they are bigger and have more money?? Absolutely not. If nissan motor co wanted it so bad, they should have gotten it. It is his last name, and has nothing related with cars. It was for nissan computers. The owner purchased it for legitmate reasons before nissan motor co, and he should keep it. Same for your situation.

jesus, calm down - i was just asking.

not like i'm going on a farking guerilla raid of the guy's hosting company and making them give it to me.

the ONLY reason i'm asking this at all is because the site has yet to have a single freaking page of information on it. i would be happy to give him a subdomain (or as many as he wants) to NOT use, but i WOULD use the main site.

relax, okay.....

I hate all those unused domain names... I'd fricken' kill for loki.com, and there's nothing on the site.

edit: info for loki.net

The quoted price will be at least $688 and may be over $10,000. Due to high demand and decreasing availability, the prices of Premium Domains are rising weekly.

lol. who'd pay a thousand dollars for loki.net? heh.

nope, most of the fairly common TLD's are taken.

i could get haut.name or haut.cs....but it doesn't have the same ring as haut.com

oh well, at least i managed to snag wesleyhaut.com, so i have SOMETHING...
