Is there a way to waive the Activation fee when I sign up

I remember back in the day when your cell phone contract was up and you wanted to "cancel" your account they would do anything and everything to try to keep you as a customer.

I just called up verizon and told them I was thinking about canceling my account (which is true - somewhat) and thinking about going with a different provider. Since I will be moving from NJ to Brooklyn and plan to use my cell phone as a primary phone (wont have house ph#) But the CSR keeps telling me that I should just upgrade my plan for $10-20 more to get more minutes.

Right now I pay $39.99
- 400 General Minutes
- Free Night & Weekend
- 1000 Mobile 2 Mobile Minutes

For $49.99 get 500 General Minutes
for $59.99 get 800 General Minutes

I remember when I used to have Sprint they used to give me a free phone/credit

For $35 i get
1000 minutes
free nights and weekends

Tmobile has been good to me so far.

Wait till after November 24th, see if prices go down. Otherwise you will have to switch carriers, as gopunk said, Verizon is the most desired, if you want the best you have to pay.

I know of a few ways:

1) You can switch to a new promotion at any time but you would have to extend your plan
2) To waive activation w/ Verizon, I believe you would need to do the 2 year contract thing

Both of the top options are never that desirable.

3) You could do a share plan w/ a few friends and have the cost broken down.

But yeah, Verizon is the best consumer carrier out for the US so they have that as a huge leverage now.
