How to get 166fsb?

I have an XP2000+ tbred on a Gigabyte 7VAXP Ultra mobo, with DDR333 RAM.

I want to run the 2000+ @ 166fsb to synch with my DDR333 - I'll turn down the multiplier to start with, then overclock it at my will. My problem is in the bios I can only get to 165mhz then it goes back to 133 (of course the PCI and AGP buses are well out of usable range at this point!) The windows based o/c program will go beyond this, but the divisors for PCI/AGP etc don't change.

My question is, does anybody know how to get 166fsb PROPERLY on this mobo?

Thanks,
Unts.

there is an option to adjust ratios i think on that board?

change the ratio, however its setup, to reflect a 1/5 pci divider
it might show up as 4:2:1 (what its at now) and you have to change it to 5:2:1

hunt around teh bios

try to look for jumpers or switches on your mobo to enable 166MHz FSB

actually nm that
looks like the highest you can go is 165 if you start off with a 133mhz cpu

"Worse. The FSB settings in the BIOS follow a strict formula that might balk most users. The board has 2 dipswitch settings: 100Mhz or 133/166Mhz mode. If you are running an older, 100Mhz core chip, you MUST set this switch to 100Mhz mode. Further, as pictured in our "Overview" chart several paragraphs above, in this mode you cannot clock your FSB above 132Mhz. In the 133/16Mhz mode, the board will auto detect whether you are running a 133Mhz or 166Mhz core chip, and it will automatically lock your FSB options to 133-165Mhz and 166-200Mhz respectively. We've found no way around this within the BIOS, thus users of non-166Mhz Thoroughbreds CANNOT, through normal means, overclock their FSBs to insane levels. This is a pity, since we found that the board could successfully set the multiplier (via dipswitches) to both the low range and high range multiplier settings. "

:(
it appears the software ocer will allow you to have higher fsb's, and i assume if it [pci divder] is not selectable, then its automatic
try it out?

push Ctrl+F1 and see if you find anything about pci divider?

according to my manual for my GA-7VAXP Ultra
on page 44 it talks about CPU host frequency setting it to 100, 133, or 166 which changes the fsb ranges from 100-132, 122-165, and 166-200
this is apparently based off the SW1 which is right at the bottom of the middle PCI slot.

on my ultra, it is a 1 dip switch bank, and i can set it to 100 or auto

on my friend's non-ultra, it was a two-bank dip switch... not sure of the options there, ubt you may want to check sw1

I only have 1dip on SW1.

The fact that easy tune can overclock beyond what the bios can, implies that a modded BIOS could open up a few options.

I wouldn't normally try it but the board does have dual BIOSes so I have nothing to loose! Now all I have to do is find one! Cheers!
