HOW TO FTP? (off of my computer)

Hey guys, Im an extreme n00b here. I am running 2k and would like to be able to allow my friends to directly download files from me via ftp. How do I set this up? Ive done a little searching on google and stuff, but it just brings up billions of ftp clients like cute ftp - you get the idea. So how the heck do I create an ftp where I can share whichever of my files I choose?

If you can help, thanx 🙂 If not, gimma a bump if you will. Need to get this semi-quickly

hey man thanx for the link to bulletproof. that seems cool. one problem, I have a linksys router and have no idea how to get my real IP, all I know is the one it assigned me 🙁 suxor. Anyways - anyone else know exactly how to do this? Thx Im dumb 🙂

Are you on a cable modem? Did your ISP assign you a STATIC IP address, or does your router use DHCP? If you are using DHCP and cannot get a static IP address, you will constantly have to update your IP address with your friends. You will also need to open up the appropriate ports on your Linksys routers to pass FTP traffic to your PC, which means that you will need to assign all your PCs on the network static IP addresses.

Good luck.

Ryan

go to linksys.com you have to make sure you forward the ftp ports to your computer from the router check for FORWARDING HERE

well-- this is what i had to do with my d-link router. I had to go into the router control panel and find out the IP adress of my router. (the real IP adress assigned by the cable company) Then i had to go to the virtual server in the control panel and assign a specific port number to my computer. So that people use the IP adress of my router, with the certain port number-- then the router redirects it to my computer.

thx for help guys.

BTW, im with cox.net and as far as Ive heard they blocked port 21. but the bulletproof ftp ryan linked me to goes around that - cool 🙂
