How to Format on Mac OS X

Step 1
Insert MAC OS DVD

For starting the process, you need to insert the MAC OS DVD.

Press ‘Alt Key’

Next Press and Hold the ‘Alt Key’ from the keyboard.

Choose ‘DVD’ Option

On your screen, a DVD option will come beside your hard drive, choose that option. Your device will run the DVD, wait until anything comes up on your screen.

Choose ‘Language’

Next, a box will open up from where you can choose your preferable languages.

Choose ‘Disk Utility’

Next, another tab will appear on the screen with options like Restore From Time Machine Backup, Reinstall OS X, Get Help Online, Disk Utility. By choosing Disk Utility, you will repair or erase a disk or basically format it.

Select Format Options

Next, the Disk Utility tab will open up. On the left panel, choose Mac OS X base system. On the right panel, you will see Erase and Refresh options. If you want to format, then choose the Erase option.

Select your Disk to be Erased

From the left panel, choose the disk you need to erase and click on the 'Erase' option.

Final Agreement

Another box will appear asking your final wish on erasing the disk. Click on the 'Confirm' option to format.

Step 9
Choose the Format of the Erased Drive

Disk Utility will automatically choose your default format for the file.

Name the Drive

You need to name the empty drive to know what is present in it.

Step 11
Choose the 'Formatting' Option

Next, choose the 'Security Options' button to find out how you want to format your drive. There are options available from fastest to most secure.

Erase File

Now click on the ‘Erase’ option to empty the file.
