How to format a USB flash drive

When a insert my Key drive, my system identifies it, but when i try to open the drive a searching for drive error apears. In properties the drive is in RAW, and it doesn`t let me format it through windows. What should i do?

If you are plugging it into windows 2k/xp then right click on my computer -> manage -> disk management and you will see a raw partition the size of your flash drive. Right click it and select format. If it doesnt let you format it, try to delete the partition then create a new one.
Also check to make sure if the drive is lockable, that it is not lock. may be obvious but i've myself overlooked the obvious
