I keep on having this problem with my hd where I can't defrag because it has errors, but I can't scandisk because scandisk "cannot complete". (I know...I oughta get a new drive, but don't worry, this one is backed up remotely every day) I've found before that when win2k does a startup disk check, it fixes some things so that scandisk can complete and then I can defrag, but is there any way force win2k to do a startup check or is there any other way to fix those errors that are preventing scandisk from completing?

thanks.

Hit start, then run, type "command", when the command window is there, type "chkdsk /f" you will then be told that the disk cannot be locked and asked if you would like to run at next boot, type "y". You have to type "exit" to get out of the command window, then you can reboot and all should be well.
